PERSONALITY TRAITS:

The peacock loves to be adored and deeply craves love and attention. Usually has a bold sense of style, they love to be complemented and showered with love and appreciation. If they feel they are not getting the love and adoration they need, they tend to call attention to themselves with the way the dress, the way they interact with others or through grand gestures of generosity so that they can get the appreciation they need. The peacock archetype would likely have had experiences early on in life that made them feel as though they were not loved, so they have a deep need for it in adulthood and lots of reassurance until they learn to master this archetype.

Usually very charming and outgoing, peacocks tend to be highly social and able to speak to just about anybody. If you’re a peacock, you love love and value your relationships greatly. While a very likable archetype, this can put a lot of pressure on loved ones around them as the peacock requires a lot of time and energy to feel loved. Peacocks like to prove their value and be known for how wonderful they are. Peacocks tend to be more needy than other archetypes as they have a hard time being alone and need to be in communication. They like to talk a lot as being with people and relating to people fills their need for love and attention. An unhealthy version of a peacock will sometimes engage in behaviors that are difficult for their partner or friends. Unhealthy behaviors include a lack of boundaries or not filtering what they say for the appropriate audience. Again, these behaviors are motivated by an unconscious need for attention, which they mistake for love or adoration. Turning conversations around to themselves often can make people around a peacock weary as well. As a peacock learns to master their emotions and develops healthy behaviors, they will learn to love themselves, they will know deeply that they are enough, that they are loved, and they will not need so much external validation, which will make them wonderful to be around.

WHEN TRIGGERED:

If hurt or upset, peacocks will let you know immediately as they are highly emotional and wear their heart on their sleeve. A peacock will share very quickly that they are hurt, because they are sensitive and they can’t hide their emotions. They may not always say why they feel hurt but you will know they are upset. Peacocks are quick to get emotional but also quick to resolve issues so that they can get back to the business of loving those around them and being loved. If a peacock hasn’t developed healthy behaviors, then they tend to be oversensitive at times, as they make everything about them without realizing.

Because of their oversensitive and highly emotional nature, peacocks can be triggered easily, so people around a peacock will have to be on high alert and watch what they say and learn to stroke the ego to bring them back to balance.

Peacocks are very sensitive creatures and can tend to be on the dramatic side. Because of their need for love and close communication, it’s not difficult to love this archetype as they want to quickly move past issues so that you can resume the relationship as they need love the most. One of the easiest archetypes to be in relationship with on one hand, peacocks are usually quite forgiving and enjoy keeping close relationships. Only when crossed in a major way will a peacock cut contact or remove someone from their life. Because of their deep need for love and connection, they tend to have a lot of friends and loved ones and will do what it takes to keep them close.

If a peacock can learn the tools to develop in a healthy way, they will not be oversensitive, as they learn to reassure themselves that not everything in life is about them. Learning to live with less hurt and being able to reaffirm that they are loved leaves a healthy peacock feeling much more peaceful, more balanced and able to control their emotional state with ease. This creates a space for stronger relationships and healthier bonds with those around them.

HOW IT MAY BLOCK YOU:

Peacocks are highly sensitive so they tend to get hurt and offended easily. They can have a bit of imposter syndrome. Because of this underlying fear of not being loved or lovable, they will have a lot of people around them but they don’t always let people in. If they do, they fear they’ll be truly known and if someone really sees them, then they will not love them. So they often have a facade – a representation of themselves, rather than truly having the love and connection they desire.

At work and in relationships, a peacock can talk a big game, always showing their wonderful skills, which can alienate people. In extreme cases, peacocks will cross a line with people and do things that are inappropriate if they don’t get the attention they need. This can cause problems in relationships.

Peacocks need a lot of adoration which can be exhausting for those in close relationships as they don’t always draw strong boundaries when they should and can also be very needy, which puts a lot of strain on relationships.

MASTERING YOUR ARCHETYPE:

On the pathway to mastering this personality archetype, the peacock will learn how to love themselves and to reassure themselves so that they do not need so much external validation. These lessons include understanding where the unconscious belief began, how the life block gets triggered, what the various reactions could be before healing, and how to make new choices when healed. So the peacock eventually learns that they are loved, that they have always been loved, and will learn that the day to day events matter less than the bigger picture. The peacock will feel more peaceful, more joy and will have a more balanced temperament, making them a delight to be around.
